HE HAD 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. HE COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT MADE HIM EXCEPTIONAL.

Sep 02, 2026

The job seekers using AI right now are not smarter than everyone else. They are faster at one specific thing. Building clarity about themselves, before they walk into the room. And that gap is bigger than most people realise.

I was working recently with a VP of Sales in the industrials segment.

20 years of experience. A strong track record. Someone who had consistently delivered results across complex, high-stakes environments. He came to me with a generic intro. Motivations that could have belonged to anyone. Career stories that weren't landing.

He just couldn't see what made him exceptional.

This is more common than you think. Most professionals are too close to their own experience to identify their own superpowers. What feels ordinary to you looks remarkable from the outside.

The problem is that interviews don't reward what you have done. They reward how clearly you can articulate why it matters.

Here's what we did.

Step 1: AI interviewed him.

Not a generic "tell me your strengths" exercise. A structured conversation that pulled out the specific situations, decisions, and outcomes that defined how he worked and why.

Step 2: AI mapped his superpowers.

From that conversation, AI identified the skills that made him a direct fit for the role he was targeting.  Specific, named strengths grounded in his actual experience.

Step 3: AI showed him the evidence.

This is the part that changed everything. AI went back through his CV and LinkedIn profile and highlighted exactly where he had already demonstrated those skills. Moments he had undersold. Stories he had buried in bullet points. Impact he hadn't thought to connect to the role.

He didn't need new experience. He needed to see what he already had clearly enough to say it out loud with conviction.

What changed was not his resume, tt was how he showed up in the room.

He walked into that interview knowing precisely what made him the right person for that role and where in his own history to point to. That is not a small thing. That is the difference between a candidate who seems qualified and one who seems inevitable.

AI didn't get him the interview. It got him ready for it.

And what used to take weeks of coaching to surface - the self-awareness, the narrative, the evidence - we built in a single session.

That is what I mean when I say AI compresses the time it takes to build clarity.
